Day 58 Report

.
Day 58 - 23/7/07 - 60kms by River from Louth

Steve's Report: Finished up 30km by road from Louth which will be a bit over 60km by river.
Another short day because I addressed the Bourke Council members at 2.00pm. Dave picked me up at noon and we headed back into town. Again there were some patches of very clear water making for some terrific sections of river.

I have no idea how well the fishing club does but I did talk to a couple further upstream who had been on holidays on the river for two months. In that time they had caught 10 fish. 60 divided by 10 is 6. That is a fish every 6 days on average!!

Most of the Bourke Council seem to be climate change sceptics, but I am getting used to that. They were all very hospitable and I enjoy their company. Seems like people are happy to trust science in certain areas but not in others. When people say that they just want balanced views I wonder if they get a balanced opinion from a witch doctor if their heart specialist says they need bypass surgery. I must be getting old and cranky eh? I did hear a bit of John Laws' program on the radio last week and I am simply appalled at the lack of value some people place in proven scientific results.

Looks like a fishing club. The water is very
clear here. The white paths are rough concrete.
The sign says "Darling Harbour" and there
are two Australian flags there
They look after themselves. The fishing spots have their own nets and plastic chair on a milk crate.

More screw pumps. Look carefully to the
right and it looks like they may have
replaced old centrifugal ones
I started playing with the GPS. See top left,
that is my current speed. It is fun to have
a speedo on a kayak
Looks like someone lost interest in this boat.
Maybe someone will pull the tree off it one day
